Side Effects

Games box with Skull

Recommended Age: 14+ years

Players: 2-8

This is a great game to not only have some fun but it may even help cure a few of those problems you didn’t want to talk about.  No promises though!  At the start of the game, each player gets a set of disease cards and then throughout the game they try to cure themselves.  Unfortunately each medication has some side-effects which your team “mates” will try to trigger.  First person to sure their diseases before they get the better of them, wins.  It’s addictive and if you love Trust Me I’m a Doctor then you’ll love this further twist on the medical constabulary.

Anomia

Recommended Age: 10+ years

Players: 3-6

Anomia is a delightfully simple game all about quick thinking and having an answer on the tip of your tongue that you just can’t get out. To play you just flip the cards face up in front of you until the symbols on the middle of the cards match with someone else’s, then you must say (yell) something, anything, in the category on their card before they can do the same with the category on your card. This panicked quick thinking is where the fun of the game comes in because you can know that you know a toothpaste brand but can you recall one quicker than Sarah can recall any musical? This game creates unforgettable moments that you can joke about with your friends for years, like when a friend of mine with an engineering degree couldn’t remember any capital city for like 4 rounds, I still bring this up years later, and you can have that too!

Monikers

Recommended Age: 17+ years

Players: 4-16

If you need to wrangle a bigger group then Monikers is the perfect team-based party game. In an inspired choice this game is a mixture of Taboo and Charades, with two teams going head to head taking turns guessing the cards picked by the group. In the first round a team member tries to get the team to guess their cards using any words except the name or phrase on the cards. The cards can range in difficulty and this is rewarded with more difficult cards being worth 3 points to the medium difficulty 2 points and the easiest being 1 point. Once all the cards have been guessed points are tallied and then the next round starts, with the same teams and the same cards, but you can only use one word to describe them. Once you’re onto the final round you can use NO words, only charades! You can look forward to people trying to act out anything from “ghosting” to “Typhoid Mary” or someone guessing “The Spanish Inquisition” from just the word “expects”!

Monikers will be loved by all, and if you want to add a twist then try one of the Monikers standalone expansions which bring provide completely different card sets to challenge your friends.

Jungle Speed

Recommended Age: 7+ years

Players: 2-8

Do you need a game to get energy up at your parties? If you’re having energy deficit at your parties then make sure you pick up Jungle Speed. This super simple matching and snatching game is all about quick reflexes and boisterous fun. The rules are easy to learn and easier to teach, just flip a card from a pile face up in front of you, each player doing the same around the circle until a card matches another, then those two players have to rush to grab the wooden totem from the middle of the circle. Lookout for a couple other wildcard cards and make sure you don’t grab the totem when its a false match otherwise you have to pick up … Everyone’s cards. The winner is whoever is out of cards first.  Like snap but way more fun!

Don’t Get Got

Recommended Age: 10+ years

Players: 2-10

Is there not enough general mischief at your parties or are you trying to have some fun interactions between people who aren’t that familiar with each other? Don’t Get Got is a fantastic party game that gives everyone secret missions for them to complete without anyone guessing what their mission is. From simple things like getting someone to give you a band-aid to crafting secret handshakes with 5 different people with no-one catching on this is the perfect game to start at the start of a party or games night and then just have it going in the background as everyone hangs out normally. Don’t Get Got is always a crowd pleaser with its weird and wacky challenges and the competitiveness of being the first to complete your challenges, but not getting to obvious that you get got and have to forfeit from the game. Make sure to pick this one up if you want everyone at your party to be having secret spy mission fun as well as normal party fun!
